Buffet style Brazilian restaurants in Astoria
Brazilian cousine is very rich and creative. Unfortunately, when exported they get to be a bit limited. (I guess that happens with most cuisines when they "leave their countries" and try to adapt to a new culture)... In the case of the US, Brazilian food is synonyms of an enormous quantity of meat and carbs and it costs a lot.
Most Brazilian restaurants in Astoria does not skip the stereotype of meat & carbs cuisine, except that the prices are really good. We have a few buffet style restaurants and their food is served fresh from morning to evening.
Every place has something I really like. At the Villa Brasil Café for example, I like their coconut desert called "queijadinha". I bring their "queijadinha" every time I am invited to a dinner. This mix of cheese and coconut is absolutely delicious and pleases every taste bud.
At Point Brazil restaurant I like the fact that they serve brown rice and lots of interesting salads. At Carioca Grill, I enjoy very much their "salgadinhos" (variety of fried carb cakes with meat inside...) . You have to order these "salgadinhos" a part from the buffet though. And at Copacabana Grill I like their cooked vegetables. It reminds me of the earthy country food my gradma used to make.

Rio Palace Salon
I live in NYC for over 20 years, and during all this time, the best hair cuts I've had was when I was traveling in Brazil... Until I met Pedro, the hairdresser at Rio Palace Salon in Astoria, NY. Pedro is a great hairdresser and also a wonderful person.
I've notice that lately, maybe out of pressure for selling products or competing for becoming the hair guru of a new costumer, many hairdressers are a sort of bullies. They have more negative things to say about the costumer's look then positive ones. That is not the case with Pedro. To give an example, he accepted working with the hair color I brought even though he advised me that the brand I use was well known for leaving the hair very dry (I knew that, but always sacrificed color for texture). There was no judgment from his side when I decided to keep using the same product. During the application of the color (I only needed to do my roots), he used a special cream to protect the rest of my hair from getting dry. He said nothing about the cream, just explained to me that he was protecting my hair. My hair was beautiful at the end of his work (and with great texture!). Needless to say, I bought the cream he used and he got a new client!
